Hi all fellow OG jbigio here this is also a very good site
joe |
In my orchidboard.com experiences, I have encountered so many wonderful, knowledgable people willing to simply help others and share their experiences. They freely exchange valuable information that would otherwise tally a small fortune in research materials such as books, etc. This forum has a consistent student/mentor atmosphere like none other, which is why I am becoming a member after I take care of some vet expenses... :) I am truly grateful to have discovered such a wonderful community, and look forward to sharing my experiences with orchid newbies once I'm properly educated. :)
My personal thanks go out to Orchid Board and all of its members. I'll be joining you soon!!! |
Ok. Now I'm scared.

It seems Orchidgeeks is up and running again... Ucchhh.... Orchidgeeks is really a strange place, and I really avoid it all I can...!
A few months ago I posted a for sale post on orchidgeeks.com (as well as here and on a few other orchid forum sites) for a 1 cubic foot package of CHC I had (after switching to NZ Radius bark), asking a mere $15 (some online retailers ask as much as four times this amount), hoping to offer another local hobbyist a good deal... A week later I received a message, upon logging onto orchidgeeks.com, that my membership had been cancelled and revoked due to posting in an effort to make profiteering spam on the orchidgeeks.com site...! :( ????????????????????? So, you know what? Scr** orchidgeeks.com. That crazy site has very little interest in helping hobbyists reach and help other hobbyists. They are about forum glory and policing and enforcing silly rules that they never bother to tell members about. Anyone with a moderate IQ could have read my post and easily seen that it was about helping other hobbyists out (to quote from my post, "I only have this ONE package, so first come, first serve!"), and was NOT about trying to get free commercial advertising space for a profit venture...! SHEESH!! Personally, I would avoid orchidgeeks at all costs...! Here on Orchidboard.com, it's SO much more friendly and easy-going and geared toward sharing...! Personally, surfing around OrchidGeeks to me is like spending time beating a dead horse... :badh: |
I guess I'm lucky and found this board my first try. I'm a happy camper. :-)

I hear you! Your post might have gotten you "booted" because it wasn't for an orchid. In going over the rules this a.m. it sounds like the sell category on geeks is for plants only. I have been a member of geeks for some now and each day I say "this is it, I'm leaving". Recently I made the mistake of questioning a certain big wig on the forum. Although I haven't been thrown out yet, the mood towards me has def. changed. Talk about cold! Anyway, I won't be going back. The forum is very cliquey and I've never liked that. Al |
ToddsterVonCattMan,
When I created a thread on using flickr as an orchid society website over on orchidgeeks, the admin quickly deleted my thread. As you can see, it wasn't deleted here. When I created a thread requesting clarification on the policy...the thread was locked and the policy even murkier than before. During a PM exchange with the admin he banned me for 3 weeks because he didn't like it when I explained that lack of transparency makes it easy to abuse power. After the 3 weeks I could only post again if I apologized to the admin for "disrespecting" his authority. If orchidgeeks didn't have as many orchid hobbyists from Southern California as it does...I wouldn't have gritted my teeth and offered an apology. In any case, feel free to also share any future good deals with the flickr group for orchid hobbyists in Southern California or our recently created OSSC page on facebook. |
I agree with cb977, OB is a very friendly place. I'm one of those people who needs to feel comfortable before getting involved with anything. I have been on several forums, but I didn't like the not so friendly comments I've seen on some of the other boards. I've never experienced that at OB--even if a comment could be misinterpreted, it was always clarified to make sure no one took it the wrong way; and I learned so much--with much much more to learn :bowing That's why I joined OB. I go on OB daily, but only once in a while on the other boards.

Mirranova, I got your formula from OG (patlee), but I use 1-1/2 tsp. of the extract, 10 drops of Dawn(the green, apple scented kind) and 24 ounces of water. I love it for everything!!!:waving Yes, it's a stronger than normal concoction, but I've never had any trouble on any of my chids--Can't thank you enough:thanx:

Wow, glad to hear I wasn't an islolated case with 'geeks...! In the reef aquarium hobby, I have delt with a big forum site, much like 'geeks, that is run by what appears to be bored people who need to harass others on the forum and nit-pick the silliest rules to death; I prefer to invest my time in working hard at a job so that I can afford a better reef aquarium or better orchids...!
Thanks, epiphyte78, for the ficker group info on the SoCal group—I will check it out...! |
