Dorothy, you couldn't keep me away! I really love this board. In fact my 8-yr old son just commented that every time he sees me on my laptop, I'm reading about those orchids again. Could be worse things than a mom interested in growing beautiful flowers ... oh yeah, he thinks there is ... a mom who stops to take pictures of every flower she sees! LOL

Again, everyone has been so helpful and patient with my "beginner" questions ... thank you.

1 quart water (for standard spray bottle)
Works well as a fungus killer, leaf cleaner, and all around bug killer/deterrent. Be careful using on sensitive roots, as cinnamon can be a dessicant, I have not had problems with it on Cyms, Catts, Phals, Dends, or Neos. I have also used this on the leaves of my Masde but not the roots.
Thanks for sharing this! I can see how it would work - especially as a fungicide, as cinnamon is reputed to have this property, if I recall correctly.

I won't find Dawn at the shops here - I assume that any dishsoap would work? Or is there something special about Dawn? (I think its purpose is just to enable the solution to 'stick' better - oh, and clean the leaves if used for that...)

The list of things you grow is really nice and varied. And I see you grow Neos! (Some of us are a bit Neo mad here!)

I hope you guys are enjoying your time here! Its great to have you! You know you are always welcome here whether Orchidgeeks is up or not.

Thanks Shakkai! I try to use a dishsoap that is as gentle to the environment as possible, and I know that Dawn is. It's used to clean penguins that have been in oil spills. Any dishsoap is fine, it just acts as a surfactant/spreader for the cinnamon extract.

I lurk in/post to about 10 orchid forums with varying frequency. While I have no guilt about my lack of commitment to any one group, I am a little worried that one day they'll all confront me on Jerry Springer.

LOL! I don't think that orchid forums are necessarily a monogamous relationship!!

Cool! I use Ecover (Ecover United Kingdom - Washing up liquid lemon)
so that should work too...

I think I'm going to go mix some up today... I can do some leaf cleaning over the weekend.

Thanks so much again for sharing this tip.

No problem. My plants love it, it really keeps the water spots away, I just spray it after watering. I tend to hose everything (Phals included), and I even spray it down into the crowns of the Phals as a preventative for crown rot.
