I recently bought my first orchids. Cathleyas and Vandas. Next week I will received 15 species, some minis.
Here is the temperature recommandations I found in one of my orchid:
In general a temperature range of 14 degrees celsius is about as cool as I would dare to go and I would be hesitant to allow the plant to get much warmer than 30 degrees for extended periods of time.
So to be confortable, this orchid need 13ºC at night and 27ºC on day. But... how can I get this 13ºC? Air conditionner?
For now they grow outside, zone 4b. But this fall, I will grow them in my basement with 12 fluorescents in 90% humidity environement.
Ross... you took about 4 to 5 seconds before answering... why did you take so long?
Thank you for your answer. You reasured me... and my wife!
Had to do the temperature conversion I figure that's a lower limit of 56 degrees F and upper limit of 86 degrees F. This range is pretty conservative for Cats, but I don't know on Vandas. Cats can take down to low to mid 50s (F) at night. You're still OK with a basement, though.
