Marker question
Does any one know of a good marker that won't fade to use on the orchid tags . I grow everything outside and the only thing that seems to work for now is pencil. I know that there has to be something out there .
Any suggestions ??

Sakuri Indenti-Pen. It's like a paint marker.
Check out Ray's site, he has a whole study on this. I've really been liking my new label maker.

I've tried everything and so far the best has been pencil. I am seriously thinking of getting a label maker though...

Felt tip pens fade when exposed to sunlight. Have tried numerous colors, all fade within a month or so. I use pencil also. Just got a label maker. Using it on indoor plants. Haven't tried it outside yet. Anybody tried crayon?

I use a Brother label maker. I have really punished a couple labels to see how they would hold up.
I soaked one in bleach overnight. I also ran them through my dishwasher to see what they will do. They are under T5 lights and under HID lights. They do not fade.
This one has been in this plant for about one year. I repot, and just put the same label in the next pot. Just don't try to peel it off if the plant dies so you can reuse the same stake. Once they are there they are there to stay,

thanks for your reply, Marilyn
Sounds like a good idea....the label maker. I've not had any experience with labeling yet, since I'm so new to orchids, but I have several labels that came off of plants that blew over off of a shelf on our backporch during a rain/windstorm....so since I had no idea which plant each label belonged with, I guess I have blank labels that I can put a label-maker label on if I ever need to. If I ever find out what some of my noids are, that might work.

Pencil works for me as well. Why spend money on a marking machine, that I can spend on another worth-while orchid
