I just read your responses, but i have to say, i treated it again, this time twice, and today i canīt see any fungus at all.
I treated the plant with a solution of water and sugar for 10 min, and then rinsed, and gave the plant a wash of hydrogen peroxide, rinsed and repeated.
I think this time it might have worked because i treated the whole plant. The previous time i didnīt treat the leaves(i was scared of harming them).
I let the plant dry, not for two hours though....i just dried it with paper towels, and left it to dry more for about an hour.
I then put it back in the bag which i had previously put in the freezer to try and sterilize it a bit.
So far, it looks good. Fingers crossed.

Peggy, that sounds very interesting. I completely discarded using Listerine because the kinds we get are not the original brand, but i wonder if more users have experimented with the other brands and what their results might have been. Btw, congratulations on saving your plant. Thank you all for your responses...

I would like to ask about the use of the brown Listerine..I picked up a marked down Den at HD about a month ago. I remember reading here on the OB that using the brown Listerine to cleanse the roots was a good thing to do, but not to use the other kinds...When I brought this Den home it had 2 leaves with a few black spots on them and it was growing in some corking looking mess..it was a challenge to me, a newbie. When I was finally able to free it of the medium it was growing in, I decided to use some Listerine, but only had the citrus kind...so I took a clear plastic deli container, the large size and put in tepid water along with some of the Listerine..a weak solution. I soaked the roots in the solution for about 20 min. then rinsed it very thoroughly..Long story short (er), it is so far doing well, growing new leaves and healthier looking roots..So I wondered if the fact that my Listerine solution was very weak nullified the fact that it was citrus flavor, or does it make a difference? Thanks for your response..Eileen (I've been reading this thread holding my breathe for the poor baby)
That's very interesting! I don't know why you're not "supposed" to use anything but the original brown...all I know is that's what I read.

I'm all for experimenting...and you've discovered another way to treat our chids!

Thank you

I use cinnamon powder too for cuts, scrapes and any wounds. The Listerine works for me as a general fixer-upper when I see signs of a problem and as a preventive when I'm repotting a new chid..

If we all did things exactly the same way, we'd be bored!
