Sphag and Bag... goner or not? Male
Default Sphag and Bag... goner or not?

I have sphag and bagged a rootless NOID miniature yellow phalaenopsis. It previously only had two leaves left and the roots were all gone...

I bagged it with a wet paper towel in the corner of the bag and kept the plant on the opposite side to reduce the amount of standing water (except for condensation) in contact with the leaves.

Now one of the two leaves is showing signs of yellowing... and i'm sure it will turn all yellow and fall of soon... my question is...

with one leaf left can this sucker put out roots and make it still?? or should i just toss the bag and call it quits!??? Is the plant sacrificing one leaf to compensate lack of roots and thus lack of water? Will one leaf suffice? This plant had been in the bag for a good 3 weeks now; just wanted to know if it's worth waiting still...

I have a phal noid in a bag with sphagnum moss that has no leaves left. It has grown roots. I had started to throw it out and discovered the roots and left it in there. I am just waiting to see what happens. There weren't any good looking roots when I put it in the bag, just sad looking gnarly twigs. I think I underwatered this one. Guess it depends on how much you like that phal and whether anything is happening.

Why throw it away while its still alive?
Theese plants have an extrordinary will to live sometimes, just look at the tread on the Phal.forum just now, where an old spike, thrown in the garbagge, has set a new spike...

No, i say give it a figthing chance... and leave it be.
If it lives, it lives, and if it dies, it dies.
But dont throw it before its gonne!

I'm kinda in the same situation. "life support"

A phal lost 2 branches-sorry spikes, it also lost it's last 2 leaves.
But, I also noticed a couple of green healthy roots. One big one.
So, I decided to leave it on "life support", while those roots are green and hard.

Good luck to both our plants, and I'm going to let good ol'mother nature do her thing.
