New leaf on Cattleya? Female
Default New leaf on Cattleya?

I'm not sure if this is a new leaf growing on my Cattleya or not. It is growing under a skewer and I was wondering if I need to be concerned about the placement of the skewer and the new growth. I know the plant itself is not doing too well (lots of dead roots) and leaves that don't seem to be doing well, but there are a few (maybe 2) new roots growing. Any suggestions to encourage new root growth? What about the new leaf (if that's what it is)? Any advice and suggestions are welcome! Thank you all!

Welcome to the board! We're glad you're here!!

Yep, that's a new leaf or "nubbin" as you'll learn around here..lol...the stake placement looks ok, the new growth with grow around it...no worries...now as for the condition of the plant - it's thirsty - how often are you watering and fertilizing? As for promoting new roots, get a product called K-L-N (Dyna Grow) Welcome to First Rays Orchids is where I get mine. Follow the directions ont he label and you should be fine....keep us posted on your progress!!!

Technically, it's not a leaf, but the progression in the growth of a new pseudobulb, which will be topped with a leaf.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for replying so quickly! I am watering the plant about once a week with fertalizer. The leaves have looked like that for a while...should I water it more frequently? There are only two or so tiny roots, so when I water, most of the water just goes right through the pot. Looking forward to more suggestions!
