Yesterday* I received 2 troubled orchids from a friend.* The first is a Max. Densa and the second is a Vanda Coerulea.* Both look as if they have received too much sun and too little care.* The Max. has shrivelled pseudobulbs (the basket was bone dry) and reddish tips on some leaves.* I have rehydrated the sphag daily and am keeping it out of direct light.* The Vanda was bare root (what roots there are) with brown, dry, tips on some leaves and yellowish edges on others.* Tips have sice been trimmed.* It is getting the same treatment as the Max. except it gets a dunking twice daily.* I wired it on to a plaque I had until I receive some other input.* The first three pics are of the Max.* The last three are of the Vanda.* Pardon the photos....not my best efforts.Gregg
I think the maxillaria will be fine after a bit of better care (shady and warm), but you may have to go to some lengths to revive the vanda, especially since that species requires bright light and cold-, to cool temperatures to grow well.
I don't know about the Max, but about the Vanda, you can check out the Vanda alliance section. There have been two great posts lately about encouraging root growth in vandas. I think that would be a good thing for yours as the roots look a little ummm...skinny? I will try to remember to link them here for you. I think they can be revived though, it will just take time, patience and energy! Good luck!
