Default Soaking in listerine

Hi all

So i've been reading that some folks recommend giving the roots of the orchid a soak in listerine when repotting, especially when they've just been purchased from the nursery, online etc.

This might sound like a silly question, but I'm just wondering when soaking in listerine - what's the dilution portion for this? It can't be full strength right... or is it?

I think snow meant bottlestrength, or straight concentrated listerine. Not diluted with water.

I presume you're viewing the Listerine as some sort of disinfectant. Why do you think there's an "automatic" need for it upon repotting?

I use it whenever I'm repotting anything. I keep a sprayer available with full strength Listerine handy.

When repotting, I spray the root zone and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off and repot. When I see something funny on a plant, I just spray it and leave it alone. It's worked well for me

Just to add on though, I read here (somewhere) that it has to be the original brown-ish listerine, right?

That's what I tell everybody...I have no idea why but that's what I read when I was first interested in using it.

Another note: I buy whatever store brand I find. It doesn't need to be the actual name brand to use for this.

I knew I read it here somewhere and it makes a lot of sense, somehow I don't think my orchids would benefit from the baking soda whitening action
