One of the first orchids we bought online was a Howera Lava Burst. It is also one of the first orchids I mounted, back in early May. After mostly just hanging around through the summer with the only observable growth being a few new roots, last week a nubbin' emerged from the sphag well below and dead center of the pseudobulbs! This appears to be a new growth and not a root. Kay has decided this 'chid must be a boy!

The best part is, that while watering today I found 2 new bloom spikes just emerging. Sure feels good to know you've done something right, doesn't it? I'll try and post a pic of our boy 'chid later.
