I have one group of phals that is blooming and another group that is resting after I have just cut their spikes since they finished blooming. They all currently live in bark media and are all very healthy.
What ratio of fertilizer (20-20-20, 30-10-10, etc) should I use and how often for each group? I live in a colder climate (pacific northwest, though it's been quite sunny lately.)
Phalaenopsis don't really "rest" like some other plants - maybe a brief lull, but they can start to show new vegetative growth very shortly.
I am a firm believer in feeding orchids regularly, and for phals, I'd recommend your 20-20-20 at 1/2 teaspoon per gallon, three out of four waterings, with the 4th being a thorough flush with plan water.
Avoid the 30-10-10 altogether, or you will get beautiful, emerald-green foliage and possibly never see another blossom on them.
I bought the 30-10-10 for a Bulbophyllum because someone recommended it, and I couldn't find any additional information. Do you think it's okay, or should I stick with the 20-20-20 as well? Also, the 30-10-10 is UREA free.
