Cattleya medium
Hi. I was at Home Depot today and saw some Cattleya's that were growing in small red rocks that were porous and about .5" in diameter.
What's the benefit of using these over bark for Catts?

They don't break down and rot. It's called LECA (Light Expanded Clay Agregate.) Charcoal is another good substrate.

To me they use it as a decoration because it's only on the top surface not mixed in the potting mix.
