How often does sphagnum moss on mounts break down and What is the best option once this has happened? I have a Sedirea japonica on a cork mount and the sphagnum moss is looking terrible, of course that would be because I used to dunk my mounts, now I just mist/spray them well, but the damage is already done.
My sphagnum gets really junky, but I leave it. The wet moss seems to take over for mine. I have had a couple mounts get rotten and I carefully seperated the plant/roots from the stick and remounted it on new cedar. They have done really well compared to the old ones. So I plan to remount a few in the next month or so.
