Default Hi Ray!

Uh Oh...I guess I was too hasty when I decided to switch over more of my plants than your starter kit would provide for, but S/H sounds like such a good system...I couldn't help myself. lol My hat's off to you also because I read that you have spent much time perfecting S/H. Anyway, back to the subject at hand: Before I read this post from you, I had already placed an order with you this morn. but afterwards decided to try S/H on only 3...maybe 4 Phals...then keep whatever items from my order that remain afterwards for "spares" because I KNOW I will be buying more orchids in the future! No doubt! (Bottom line concerning my order...I'm comfortable with it remaining as is.) So, with this being said...do you think I made a bad choice when I changed my mind and decided to transfer 3 or 4 plants...rather than just 2? If so, I will still do as you advise, and (as I said) save what is left of my order for later? I really want your advice because if anyone would know the best thing to do about this, it is you.
Thanks,
Vicki

Hey Vicki,

I don't think 3 or four is a problem, especially since they are the same genus, so they're likely to be in the same growth cycle. Problem is - any timing problems would be x4. From what I understand (and I am NOT the one to give s/h advice (I just got my starter pack a few months ago), Phals are more forgiving than most. They really take to it well.

Anyway, here is my advice: go back to FirstRays website. Take your time and start at the beginning. He explains exactly how and why certain materials are used, and it really helps understand the concept. He has tons of info. Do your research. It'll be worth it. If I was a betting man (I'm not), I'd say you'll be fine.

I just have one question and keep in mind that I have not done any research to using S/H. I keep hearing about an adjustment the plants have to make. Are you all talking about the typical adjustment that any orchid might have when you go from say...moss to coconut chips/bark medium or are you talking a major shock to the plant's system. Everyone seems to be on pins and needles when they convert to this S/H method. I'm just beginning to wonder why.
Yes, it's time to read up on it, I guess, and find out what the fuss is all about. Having been lucky enough to read all Ray's comments throughout the OB posting these past several months, I know he knows his stuff.
He is one that I love to see his imput. FYI though, there are many here whose imput I respect highly....so don't mean to offend anyone.

Default Hi Royal!

Ok Royal...thank you...you've helped me make my decision...and it's definite, by the way (lol): When I receive my order from FirstRays, I'm gonna transfer 3 Phals. That's it for now. I sure will take your advice and go back and read more. I really want to know about the S/H system, so I won't be in a hurry this visit...I'll take my time and try to absorb as much as possible (for a blonde...as I mentioned to Becca lol) As I commented in one of my other posts: I'm a sponge when it comes to learning more about Orchid growing, so hopefully my mind will pick up some of Ray's important info. Also, let's pretend you're a betting man, but only in this case... I appreciate your vote of confidence. I'm sure gonna give it a shot.
Thanks again,
Vicki
