Default Non sterile Cattleya seed

I got myself this cattleya seeds this afternoon. It is still with it's matured pod. (image) I kept them with me right now, in my dorm. I've folded them inside the wet newspaper.

Is it safe? since I have to wait another 8 hours for them to be transferrred in a sterile condition. (laboratory)

I plant to culture the seeds as soon as I prepare my media.I heard that it can stand only for 1 to 2 weeks. What should I prepare/do? since this is my first time in Orchid micropropagation.

thanks

it all depends on the lab tech. dry pod? next time try to aquire a 'green-pod' there are less steps and therefore, (in my opinion) less that can contaminate or go wrong. the pod and its contents will have to be soaked in a decontamination solution (bleach) before beginning the rest of the process. good luck!

DON'T put it in WET newspaper!!!

Don't even use newspaper. Mold and Fungus will ruin seed fast. Since it's from a mature capsule that has already split (best in my opinion), place it in a coffee filter or just a folded piece of plain copy paper and place it in still, dry air. Seed that is harvested and dried properly will last in a household refrigerator for years.
