I agree with Isurus on this one...
The plant uses energy to maintain the blooming, and may put even more energy into blooming more flowers and keikis. By cutting the spike all off, youre preventing it from this. The chid can use its energy in a healthier way, to try to survive and build up its strength again.

If you cut the flowers, and put it into a vase with water, remember to change water every day, the blooms will last almost as long as if they where on the chid....
And you have the bonus that the chid it self may survive, and keep on growing flowers for you.

I cut the flower off and it stayed beautiful until a few days ago...I just threw it out. The keiki it came from has died mostly except for the roots. they are healthy and green tipped. It seemed strange that the baby plant would just die like that but I have a theory. The keiki was a spike with many flowers and several roots, but no leaves. Maybe, it was a flower spike with roots instead of a baby plant? I guess what I mean is, what makes a keiki a keiki?
