I agree with Isurus on this one...
The plant uses energy to maintain the blooming, and may put even more energy into blooming more flowers and keikis. By cutting the spike all off, youre preventing it from this. The chid can use its energy in a healthier way, to try to survive and build up its strength again.
If you cut the flowers, and put it into a vase with water, remember to change water every day, the blooms will last almost as long as if they where on the chid....
And you have the bonus that the chid it self may survive, and keep on growing flowers for you.
