Hi there!

I recently saw an awesome system to keep areal roots neatly in the air, seemingly without damaging them and without potting the plant in a basket. I saw this system on a window sill of a house I pass every day to go to the fitness center and would like to try it out on my plants.

This person put small sticks around the stem of the plant. To my unexperienced eye it looks as if it does 2 things:
1/ The areal roots climb around the sticks and not out of the pot.
2/ The stem of the plant is kept straight.
To me this seems a great system, because the weather in Belgium doesn't allow me to put my plants outside and I have a small appartment, with no room for baskets or playing with mounts (which would be my prefered system for my orchids)

Any comments or advice are welcome! Is it really such a great system?

Hi Brambles. My thought is 'why not'! Anything to help us space challenged folks fit more plants in can't be anything but good. The plant doesn't care, as long as it's needs are met, so give it a try!

I'm afraid I can't take a picture of a stranger's window... But as soon as I found appropriate sticks I will try it out myself and post some pictures of the finished product. Can't wait to try it out!

Thank you for your vivid interest!
