Hi Cookiemonster, what bad luck!
I'm new to the forum and everyone else has great ideas about repair suggestions, but I DO have lots of experience on eBay. If that's where you purchased your chid, taking the easy approach at first is always best. Send photos, explain the situation and question whether the seller will give a refund--and whether you should send the plant back, and of course specify that the seller should pay the shipping. The bigger problem is how your other plants may be affected.
Hold your fire! Most sellers are reputable, but if on eBay (or another organized site), this seller will be seriously concerned about the possibility of getting a neg feedback from you, and may be more accommodating than you expect.
