HELP! Phal leaves completely gone
Default HELP! Phal leaves completely gone

Hello everyone Im new here!

I just received an orchid bouquet from a friend. It came with about 7 orchids together in this huge clay pot. I noticed about a week after I received it that some of the leaves were falling off from the stem. No shriveling or slowly dying off at all. One of the Phals I noticed the roots are brown mushy and the plant smells a bit. My question is should I separate the Phals & repot them or wait until the flowers completely die off? Im worried that one Phal might have a fungus and it might spread to the others. Or damaging the other Phals to remove the one bad one. What do I do to try to save this Phal? Im kind of a newbie I have 3 other phals & never had any problems with them.

Sounds like a problem with someone overwatering.

I would separate and repot.

When repotting make sure you use the large grade bark not the seedling bark or sphagnum moss or any kind of moss for that matter.

The pot should be big enough for the roots to just barely fit inside.

I am with King, a bad smell and brown roots usually mean the root system in at least one of the phals are taking place.

Un pot and repot, whether separately or together again, I use a med/large bark and LECA mix to keep it airy and a layer of moss on the top to keep in moisture but not wetness.

Cut off all rotten roots, pour a bit or hydroperoxide water and rinse after 10 sec or so.

And then back in the pot

This is a rather instructional site I came across

Hope it helps, keep us posted
