Orchids in smbiosis with fungus-(i)? Male

But the shop bought orchid was probably grown in asymbiotic in-vitro culture so it didn't make contact with mycorrhizae while germinated.

If mycorrhizae are present in the shop bought orchid's roots, how did they get there?

The chances of mycorrhizae getting onto an epiphytical orchid in cultivation are rare.

The correct symbiotic fungi has to be present.

It's a matter of whether the species of fungi that associates itself with the orchid, naturally occurs where you have the orchid growing or not. Then it's up to chance.

Most of the times, the answer to whether the correct species of mycorrhizae is present in the cultivational area is - not likely. The caveat being that the orchid is being grown not too far away from where the fungi and orchid naturally occur.

While fungal spores are everywhere, only certain ones form these associations with orchids.
