Hello

Pleaaase can anyone help???

I bought this dendrobium kingianum last summer and I have not repotted it. It has not flowered for me yet because I did not know then how to take care of it properly.
In the spring it started growing new roots and I have had some new leaves.
I have read that kingianum doesn't like its roots disturbed much but should I still repot it? The compost looks old and encrusted so I don't know how good it is for the orchid.
Another question. How often should I put fertilyser?

i would not repot yet as there seems to be enough room yet. kingianums like to be in small pots.
to get it to bloom; it needs a cool winter rest, with hardly any watering. it will bloom in the spring for you. pink or whits flowers

i agree with snow on this one. they love they're root systems jammed in tiny little pots. only advantage to repotting at this time would be to inspect the root system and to see if the media is broken down. they like to dry out quite a bit between waterings and if the media is old it may be a bit moist for it. i always repot new plants in fresh media when i get them just for inspection purposes, sometimes vendors will sprinkle good looking stuff on top to make it look good. as far as blooming, snow is also correct in that they need a dry winter rest and this plant likes bright light like most dens and thats probably more related to the lack of blooms.

It is good advice to keep it in a smaller pot, they do like to be rootbound. BUT, that doesn't mean it won't benefit from new potting medium. If it is really broken down, then you may think about repotting it - just don't use a bigger pot. Old, decomposing media may be slow to dry out making a dry winter rest difficult.

Basically, re-pot based on condition of the media, not the size of the plant.

By the way, I traveled to Estonia in 1992 and stayed in a hotel in Tallinn (right on a river?). I was young, and only there playing hockey, but I have fond memories of the kind and beautiful people there! We had a great time!

Thanks for all your help. I will repot the kingianum as soon as I can find a pot that is the same size. They don't sell so small orchid pots here
I will use bark mix and some lava rock

I am glad you enjoyed it. Tallinn is even more beautiful now that it has had a chance to develop and the people are still kind and beautiful

Well I repotted my orchid. The root system was better than I thought. There were lots of strong roots and there were new ones coming out. I hope I didn't hurt it much while repotting.
I will add a pic

Hi Liisa, another Estonian here I live in South Africa but right now I'm in Tallinn visiting my mother. And it's true, a lot has changed since I was here 6 years ago.
