How does this differ from a humidifier? How often do you need to refill it?

it blows out cool air instead of hot. it cools the air and humidifies it, but you don't see all of the steam. Its like a swamp cooler. It only needs refilling like once every 4 days and that was being ran all day (not at night)

Sorry I joined late. My collection includes at least 50 plants outside my Wardian Case, and I also water with a 5-gallon bucket. Yes it does spread bugs. But I have a limitation of space and ability to water. I'd bet a combo of Ray's suggestion and mine might work for you. If you are concerned about disease (as you should be) get two Home Depot 5-gallon buckets. Mix up water/fertilizer in one and water over the empty one. That way you won't spread anything.

Not sure how you could adapt this to the smaller shelves, but maybe it will help.
