Enough light from south window?

Hi I keep all my orchids in a south window that is covered by a sheer curtain. In the winter, when the sun is lower, the curtain is needed, since they get direct sun. But in the summer, I have noticed, since the sun is higher in the sky, the area is bright, but does not recieve much full sun. I have my Oncs, dens, etc closest to the window, and the phaphs, phals, miloniopsis etc, behind them. Since some of those plants need pretty high light, I have opened up the sheer curtains.

Do you think my Oncs and dends will recieve enoughl light in this location to flower?

Here I am at the other end of the country but we're both
north of the 49th parallel! I seem to be operating with the opposite theory. In winter I don't shade at all as I think the orchids need all the light they can get. If leaves feel warm to the touch, perhaps the light needs to be cut back but that doesn't happen here. In summer I have to shade so they don't sunburn. I don't find that oncidiums need a great deal of light but I try to give the dendrobiums more.

Thats basically what I am trying to do, but in the winter, I actually get a few hours of full sun on the plants, but in the summer, the sun is higher, so the overhang on the roof prevents full sun from getting the mid- summer sun. So the location is actually receiving LESS sun in the winter than in the summer . They also benifit from the light reflection off of the snow in the winter!

Well ... they better get enough light!!! I cannot give them anymore!! lol

Hi! i have a lot of my plants in south window, in NY. No shade. Have yet to get leafburn and we're nearing july! i figure the midday sun is more for the intense sun folks in florida, california, etc.

No doubt our sun is extremely hard on orchids. Dends enjoy more light than onc so I would place the dends closet to the light followed by the oncidiums. I grow indoors as well an have full east sun through mid morning and my dend are loving it, placing oncidiums to medium/bright light.

Your conditions make a lot of sense and controlling with a sheer is what it has to be, like myself I get full direct west sun in the afternoon which is a no no here in Fl being the strongest so a sheer is needed; once again my dends and catts are loving it.
