I drape it over almost all my mounted orchids. It serves two purposes, one, as mentioned above, it adds a great sun shade to the plant and, two, it’s a great “water me!” Reminder. If it is green then the plants is still wet or in the moist range and once it has gone all white it can stand a spray

I use it in my orchid growing areas as a poor man's humidistat and as a decorative covering for plants in and around displays. I have grown my own for over 30 years, starting from a large box full I received from Louisiana. No bugs, no itching just great for decorations and to keep the humidity up.
