I bought my first phal in Wal-Mart too. I guess they have dendrobiums and oncidiums as well.
As for yellow leaf: my oncidium (beallara) has just turned yellow its very last leaf--and I'm sure enough that that's a normal event since after they start to grow new bulbs they take minerals and nutrients from their very last leaves, which turn yellow with time. So happens with many other orchids too. And that's absolutely normal, unless you have something else going on. You may also check your bulbs and roots to see if they are rot.

I agree that the plant looks very healthy. Good growing. Its normal for the lower leaves to die off.

Don't agree. My Bllra do NOT turn yellow and add new growths and leaves/bulbs every year. See the following:
All of the original leaves and pseudobulbs are still intact.
If a person's Bllra is turning yellow and dropping leaves, there is a cultural problem. Not sure what it is at this point. BTW, this plant is 3 yrs old!

I agree that Wal-mart has a pretty reasonable selection, but I have noticed that you must buy them as soon as they arrive at the store. Plants die fast when no one waters them in a store like that.

Looks like normal ageing of the leaves. Good luck with growing!

Damian, the Bllra is Peggy Ruth Carpenter 'Morning Joy' and has all the original leaves, in same great condition (green), and has 5 new growths (advanced) and has bloomed twice this winter with 3-4 spikes each time.

Matthew, my local source's floor manager lives across the street from me and pretty much keeps me informed. They work diligently to assure good stock, send stuff back to supplier (here in Michigan) regularly, and are pretty-much a safe place to buy from. Not all sources can claim this, but when employees care, the stock shows it.

My Dend is now twice it's original size, and I have repotted it. I can't wait for it to rebloom. Any ideas as to when this may happen?
Thank you , cherlon

I thought it was IDed as not a dend...Are you talking about another plant?
Anyways give it plenty of light to rebloom it.
