Good afternoon all. I just started gorwing orchids about one year ago when I bought my apartment. I haven't had much luck so I'm hoping for some advice. I live in South Florida and currently have 80 degrees w/ 80% Humidity.

I'm starting to redo a few things. I know from the picture a few mistakes I made was having wood shelves which didn't give great ventilation and not using plastics inserts in the clay pots and using pots that are way too big.

The red one I bought today and also built the wood shelf with the metal screen to drain and vetilate better. Sinse there tucked in a corner, kind of, I thought using Pyton/Pysan 20/27, can't remeber which is which, would get rid of disease from lack of air flow.

Is there anything thing else I should do? Thank you very much.

Welcome to the board.

Spraying Physan 20 as a preventive measure may be a good idea. A couple warnings, though. Be sure to do it outside if possible and let dry before bringing plants into house. If that's not possible place the pot over a sheet of plastic. You really don't want the residue floating around in your house.

Hi, your little orchid corner looks nice and you did a very good job with the shelf. I'd look into supplying more light if possible. The phal. might be o.k. but the others would probably be happier with brighter conditions.

Hi, SP. Welcome to the board. This is a great place to hang out. There are a number of Florida growers here. You should be getting great advice, not only from them, but from people from all over the world who really know what they are talking about. I am still a novice who stands in awe of this group. Again, welcome!

Lookin' good! Good tips regarding the physan and increasing the light. Don't just plop them down in a brighter spot, though. Increase it slowly.

Also, instead of spraying b/c of lack of air flow, think about getting a fan to increase it. Hanging some of them may accomplish both at the same time.
