I recently repotted on of my phals. I bought potting medium specifically geared for phalaenopsis. Due to its chunkiness, it was pretty hard to work between the roots, and I think there's some pretty large air pockets in there. I don't want to repot it again, because I had to cut a lot of the roots, and I want to let them rest. Are the many air pockets ok?
Air pockets won't be a problem at all. Phals liberally grow aereal roots anyway, so as long as you keep enough moisture in the medium you're fine, at least in that regard.
I think my concern is the stability of the plant itself. If a Phal isn't pretty stable in the pot it doesn't like to grow new roots. Does it wobble in the pot? If so, then you should either tighten it by compressing the medium or tie it to a stake to hold it steady.
