Terminal spike?
Can someone tell me what this is?
Ive heard it is a spike emerging from the crown, and that this is a result of genetic error that eventually will kill the plant, as the plant will not survive a flowering from the crown?
In this case, it was a phal, but does this appear on other spieces, and if so, is this alsow terminal?

Some Dendrobium put out terminal flower spikes, ie. from the very tip-top of the cane, which is natural and doesn't mean it will die. "Terminal" just means from the end, (not as in the death of the plant), but the end point of the vegetative growth – top of the Den cane, crown of the Phal, etc.

I have no pics, since this was something i read. But it was refering to phals, and was explained as a spike emerging from the crown, not the bottom of a leaf.
I do not have this on any of my phals, but was curious, as this is nothing ive ever heard of?

It does happen with Phals, and with Phals I believe it does mean that the plant will not bloom again.

You are now the owner of a foliage Phalaenopsis .. the plant will continue to live but like Yvan said .. it will no longer bloom but it may kick out a few other keikis (don't quote me on that) So you have a 'mother' Phal
This has been addressed before in a past threads .. I will see if I can find them in the archives
