Default Dendrobium with a furry root

HELP! My friend gave me a dendrobium from that she got for the grand opening of her store, it looked great for 2 months and now it looks sad. the blooms are falling off, i watered it and fertilized it, I looked at the roots today and there was white fuzz next to the crown of the plant on the roots, i sprayed it with insecticide and its gone now, but im sure if i dont figure out what is causing this, it will be back!

Thanks for any advice

If that is mold, then a spray of Physan 20 would be better. Doubt that it's an insect (but could be scale, I suppose). Need to let the roots dry out a bit between waterings.

Ross, I found some black fungus like type stuff under the leafs of a Dendrobium Oriental Smile, and I was super shocked to see it, it came off with a bit of insecticide and a q-tip. Have you ever heard of this before? It didnt seem to move or be affected by just being sprayed I had to wipe it off
