I always repot every chid I get...and never re-use any of the medium it came in
Most of my plants are in LECA but I mount or hang in a basket (sideways) all my Phal species.
The most important thing to do is to read all the great info and suggestions available...
and then Do What Works For
You

The only reason I used the original medium was because it still looked good and the plant has a healthy root system. I didn't want to shock it too much. The only reason I repotted was because of the plant shift during shipping.
