Idiot's guide to repotting a Bc.

Ok, I am in the confession mode, once again here....so, be kind, all you who are tempted to say, "well, duh" - I am crystal clear on that part. My Bc. Maikai sits on the back of a bench in my greenhouse surrounded by smaller, less light demanding plants. I try to take advantage of every microclime in my realm.... In doing so, my vantage on the plant was blocked and it has severely outgrown it's pot. In fact, many of the new growths are climbing down the side of the pot...seriously, it was on the back side and I just missed it... stop rolling your eyes. I have a pot and some mix ready to go, but how to approach the plant.... I have thought about just
"submerging" the entire old pot, plant and all, into a new plant, but was really wanting to give it some new medium. I really feel . The only other option I can think of is to carefully slice the roots off of the outside of the old pot..what little of it you can see, that isn't obscured by root growth...... . Any input?

Vanessa, you are not . I'd soak the whole thing, pot and all in a bucket of tepid water for at least 30 minutes. That should help limber up the roots so peeling them off the side of the pot will result in minimal damage. I'd repot in plastic so next time it will be easier to remove.

Try not to repot until you see the new growth with about 6 to10 mm of root growth. If you are going to divide the plant then try and get at least 4 or 5 bulbs per division .Oh and don't forget to seal all the cuts , i use sulphur for this .

Hey Des! In the past, when I have cut a plant, I used cinnamon to cover the wound. Why sulfur?

Many hobbyists use cinnamon now days and if it works for them I don't see a problem. But most commercial growers here use sulphur which I have used since Pa fell of the bus. Also I think my my wife might object, I am always in trouble because I use her kitchen stuff when I can't find mine.

Vanessa the bulbos are doing splendidly! The new growth is starting to mature and it's beginning to send out new baby roots.

Ok, it's repotted....but, I broke two of the new growths off and knocked three adult growths off. OMG, I will not wait this long, again. If only there were a "smilie" running amok, pulling it's hair out with a crazed look on it's face...that would have fit when I saw the broken bits..... Now, I am just sad and relieved. BTW, there was no media left in that pot.....
