Hi! I see this term all the time but I don't know what it means.

Thanks

Doritaenopsis=Phalaeonopsis x Doritis. I think recently the taxonomists have decided there is really no distinction between the two and are now calling them all Phalaeonopsis. Someone chime in if I'm wrong.

Thank you!! So it means that the plant is not purely phalaenopsis, right?

Yeah I read that too...
is it just the dtsp being called phals, or have the doritis been reclassified as phalaenopsis?

Doritis is apparently now reclassified as Phalaenopsis, which would, I would presume, make the Dtps obsolete.

Yeah, I think that is what was determined, but I'm not changing my tags yet.

The genus Doritis had only one species, Doritis pulcherrima, with several varieties. It was easy knowing that any orchid named Doritaenopsis had D. pulcherrima in it's lineage. A very typical characteristic is the smaller sized flowers (compared to the well-known larger sized flowers of many phalaenopsis hybrids) it would produce a good majority of the time.
Doritis has been reclassified as Phalaenopsis.

Thanks for the clarification, Dorothy! As you have every time, you've come through. I'm going to start thinking of you as Dr. Dorothy!
