Ok, so i recently bought my first phal. There's pics of it in gallery from when i first bought it. There's also pics in there of when i repotted it today. The greenhouse that raised this phal had PACKED the moss very tightly into the root structure. And though the plant looked healthy when i bought it, it was in a green pot and i couldn't see the roots.
-Reminder to myself now to only buy orchids in clear pots!-
Now i decided to repot early (as it hadn't lost it's flowering stalk thing yet) because it had lost all of it's flowers and has lost a few leaves. It was a good thing i did. I was shocked to see how tightly packed it was. The roots are nearly all rotted, only a little bit of green left near the base of the plant. The leaves still look ok and the Keiki it has started still seems to be doing ok.
I did repot in moss again, but with lots of room to breath and with stones at the bottom to allow for drainage. The pictures i have up here are what i left of the roots for i fear cutting ALL of them will kill it.
Opinions on whether you think it's going to make it or not would be greatly appreciated, lol.
