hi everyone..i'm new to the board, but not so new to orchids..went to my first orchid show in memphis, tn and purchased a vanda, robert's delight-deep blue..it has what i believe to be a keiki on the back side that i would like to seperate and make a new plant..i have read you must have root growth to do this..any advice would be appreciated..thanks..!!

I don't do Vandas, but Keiki's in general need 3-4 roots a couple inches long before you can separate from the parent plant. Since your Keiki looks rather large, I would have to assume you would need more roots to support a plant that size.

The flower is a gorgeous color!

I agree with Terri.

With vandas, that growth will need a sufficiently-extensive root system to allow you to cut it off without damaging the mother plant. Sometimes it never happens, and you are "forced" to enjoy a plant with a multiple growth front. When they bloom, it's really a show!

Agreed! If you leave the keiki alone, when that's ready to bloom also, you'll have a CRAZY nice display

It's so colorful. When it blooms again, please take pictures. I hope both plants bloom at the same time.
