Default Phal with root problems

Hello everyone!

I bought a phal, not so long ago, that was pretty cheap. It had quiet a coupple of blooms at the time but quickly they disapeared and the phal also lost two leaves. It came in a quiet shaddy pot. So today, after everything fell-off and I noticed that the leaves where purple, I decided to repot it, and as I took the plant of it's orriginal pot, big chunks of sphagnum moss fell of the top by them selves and revealed a set of not so good looking roots that where probably hidden on purpose...

I am not quiet sur of what to do next, I took all the sphag out and all the roots look pretty crappy, many of them are rotten or just dead and dried out. I was thinking of repotting it into fir bark...

I posted a couple of pictures here:

Thanks!!

If that was my plant I would cut the bottom 1/4" of the green part of those two roots in the last picture, dip the cut ends in cinnamon powder, and remove all of the other, already-too-far-gone roots.

Then I'd pot it up in a moist, but airy medium and keep it very warm and humid. In a few weeks, it should begin reestablishing itself just fine.

You can tent a plastic bag over the pot and that will help keep the humidity up. Keep an eye out for mold though.

Barb,

Ray has some very helpful advice on his website (his signature link) about sphag and bag, which might be what you need to do to prompt root growth.
