Finally summoned the courage to re-pot this orchid - Brassia longissima x Rex. I've had it about 2 years and it was in bloom when I acquired it. Over time it has grown many new psuedobulbs, leaves and roots but no new spikes or flowers. Previously planted in sphagnum and perlite and very root bound. Thank you for any advice and instructions as to where to go from here!
Can't tell from the pics, but this Brassia could be divided if you chose. Be sure to keep at least 4 pseudobulbs per section. I suspect you would get 2 new plants from this clump, if you chose. Otherwise consider going to a waterlily basket and keeping the whole clump together.
Brassia need a lot of light to bloom. Most of mine bloom regularly, now twice a year as they are getting big. But I do have have one that has never bloomed for me (3 years), B. Edvah Loo. The leaves were pale green but I stuck it right under the light, now have two sunburned spots on leaves but still no spikes. Just cabbage--lots of growth, no flowers.
