Question T5 lights - distance from bulbs to plants?

Hello, everyone! This is my first post to the board. Fairly new to the hobby here, but quickly (frighteningly quickly, actually) becoming smitten. My question might have been answered before, but a search failed to turn up a definitive answer. I have a bank of 4 T5 tubes over my growing bench - Paphs, Phals, a Brassavola, an Aerangis, and a BLC. What's the optimum distance from the tubes to the top of the plant? I know Phals and Paphs need slightly less light. Thanks for the assistance!

I grow under t5 lights and found the only way to determine distance is with a light meter (an accurate one) In one of the older threads under the lighting forum, I discussed distances with another member. If I remember correctly I measured 1500-1800 foot candles aprox 8" below the lights. With the mix you have you will either need shading on the Phals and Paphs or some other setup. The Brassavola and Cat need much more light than the others.

Where in Syracuse are you? I graduated SU and my wife is from East Syracuse not too far from the University. Welcome to the board.
