Question:
Just received this plant from a reputable dealer (Norman's Orchids in CA - have gotten lots of plants from this supplier before without any problems or issues) and noted the discolorations on the newest, top leaves. The rest of the plant looks fine. It is currently in spike. I have not (to my knowledge) seen an orchid infected with a virus, but this looks similar to pictures on the net. I have attached a picture that ties to capture the areas that are of concern to me. Anyone have any ideas, comments, etc on this to direct me??
Thanks in advance.
Hard to tell because the picture is very blurred. Having said that, by your description that the discoloration is affecting only the new more tender growth, my 1st guess is that this is sun damage...the yellowing appears very uniform around the edges and the purple-looking stuff is sun exposure ....just my
It is very difficult if not impossible to determine virus by just looking at the plant You should maybe wait for it to flower . A catts flower shows the virus quite well . those marks may show up on a new leaf and then just fade away as it ages. Keep the plant isolated if you can . However do contact your supplier and tell him you are concerned. If he is honest he will tell you to dump the plant and sent you a replacement.
What is the name of the Catt?
I do not recall ever seeing coloration on leaves like that before.
If you are unhappy with your orchid and they are a reputable dealer, you should have no problem getting a refund or having the Catt. replaced.
Thanks for all of the advice!
Dorothy - the name of the plant is C. Green Emerald "Queve" HCC/A.
I have emailed the supplier with my concerns as well.
Thanks again!!
