Cut Spikes on Dtps. Taida Salu "Alisan"

My sisters and I gave my mother a Dtps. Taida Salu "Alisan" for Valentine's Day this year. The blooms dropped and I cut the spikes (it was a double) down close to the crown, leaving about 1/2". I was just wondering if I should put it in a shady spot to promote growth...that's what I'm doing with three orchids I repotted yesterday. I placed them in shady spots around my apartment.
