Vanda orchid suddenly loosing leaves

My vanda has suddenly started dropping leaves. In the last week or so, the poor thing is down to last handful, having lost around dix leaves already. Is there any way I can save it?

Water... dropping leaves is how Vandas respond to "drought". They have no storage mechanism like pseudobulbs. so if they are losing more water through their leaves than they are taking in through their roots, they start dropping leaves in a desperate attempt to avoid dehydryation.

What are your temperatures?

Around 17°C at night 20°C day time (roughly)

Is it still salvageable? I worry about the brown climbing up the stalk, though it was rot of some sorts. Is there anything else I should be doing other than upping the watering frequency?

I don't think it's watering frequency. I think it is cold and water collecting in the leaf joints. I lose a few leaves like that on my vandas each winter, but now the sun is getting a bit stronger and warmer it should dry out quicker. Mine are in vases just like yours and I find that watering once a week during the winter is sufficient, just try and get them dry as possible afterwards.

I would say the most important thing for your vanda is light, a south facing window is the best position, if your warmer room has that this would be the optimal set up.

I keep mine in my shower(winter) they seem to like it cause I put three nice grow lights in the litte bathrooms overhead fixture. Hopefully Ill be able to take them back outside soon. Dont forget to let us know if you are able to get yours to recover.

I have to admit I keep mine at 17-20C too during winter, in front of a south facing window.

Mine do well, no leaf loss at all. I dunk the roots over night twice a week. Healthy roots.

Of course higher temperatures is want they want, but apparently they can tolerate the conditions I provide

V. tricolor, suavis, lamellatta and Vanda Pure’s Wax (Blue) (= V. Doctor Anek x V. Kasem's Delight). They even grow beautiful healthy leaves.
