Miltonia Regnellii: is it ok to repot Female
Default Miltonia Regnellii: is it ok to repot

I bought this Miltonia from Orchid show, my first Miltonia orchid. I am wondering is it ok to repot or if it is too late as the new growth looks a bit longer, I am thinking of repotting it in lava rock in a semi-hydro setup

Please let me know your thoughts.

Miltonias can be a bit fussy with repotting, but if the current medium isn’t great or the roots are getting cramped, you should be fine. Best time is usually when new growth just starts, but if it’s already a bit along, it’s still doable—just be gentle.

Lava rock in semi-hydro can work, but Miltonias like moisture with good airflow, so just make sure it doesn’t stay too wet. If you go for it, keep an eye on watering and humidity until it settles in

I agree. Personally, I grow mine in bark because that's what works in my environment but lava rock in SH should also be fine. If it were me, and because the media looks ok in the pictures, I would hold off repotting until I see some new roots starting - around 1-5mm's and repot then.

This is a very robust species. Like Oncidinae in general it doesn't like to dry out. (I have one that was sort of OK mounted but did better when I put it in a basket with sphagnum) I grow it outside so it it quite cold telerant. It tends to outgrow whatever you grow it in. If you are drastically changing the medium (like from sphagnum to semi-hydro) you really should wait for new roots. The next growth will probably be out of the pot, then you'll be able to see them.

Thank you ALL for your reply.

I think I will wait for another growth to repot as the media looks good.

Thanks.
