My Catasetum's new growth snapped... now what?
Default My Catasetum's new growth snapped... now what?

So I was cleaning my drawer earlier today and I found this Catasetum that's been sitting there for a few months. When I was about to pot it, it fell off my table and landed on the new growth, snapping the upper part in the process... the roots are intact though. Now what should I do? Should I remove only the snapped part, leaving the roots? Or should I just leave it as is?

Just leave it alone. It will probably produce another shoot. And you should not be repotting it now when it is starting to grow. The time to pot these is when they are dormant. Don't start watering until the new roots are 10 cm or so. Read through the Catasetinae sub-forum for lots of advice on growing this unique group of orchids.

As Roberta said, there's not much you can do except wait. You could use this time to repot it into a much smaller container.

Did you have the plant inside the drawer?
