I have purchased bareroot cattleyas, not came yet, but suppose to have two stem divisions, wondering if any guideline to take care of them / potting /media, can I pot immediately or should I wait till new growth? Apologies for lots of questions but would like to see them to grow
When I get bare root cattleya I hang them in my mounted orchids area that gets watered daily until I see a new growth with new root nubs, then I pot it up. This has been my most successful method
It depends on your conditions. If you can water them daily until they are ready to pot, that's great. But if you can't manage that, then you probably should pot them up so that they get water - the old roots won't get intimate with the medium the way new ones will, but still can hydrate the plant. Southern California is basically a desert... they can't go a long time without water.
