Hi y'all, i have a question.... what's the meaning of sib, sibling and X sib?

A sibling is when two plants are crossed which are grown from the same parents or when plants are grown from one seed capsule and are crossed.

It's basically the same thing .. in this case, the seed pod is the end result of pollination between two parent plants.

OK. Let's throw a curve ball into the discussion.

You have the species Onc. A and an Onc. B, and I also have a plant each of Onc. A and an Onc. B. We both cross them, we harvest ripe capsules, and it turns out they are the hybrid Onc. AB-baby.

We each select two superior seedlings from our individual batches, and cross them, giving us each an Onc. AB-baby sibling cross.

If, on the other hand, you have me one of yours, and I crossed it with one of mine, is that still a sibling cross?

One might argue that since all of the seedlings were from A and B they were, but to me, that ignores individuals' genetics.

Let's take it further: what if your species and mine were each the same clone?

I believe that is considered 'selfing'
As selfing is not only the trading of pollinia between the flowers of the same plant but it's crossing two plants which are grown from one meristem (or by cutting one plant into two parts.)
Am I understanding this concept correctly?
