I gave up trying to confine mine, I just let it do its thing and it's happy. These really don't like root disturbance. And they just tend to get longer growths... the roots run the length of the growth (however many pseudobulbs may be stacked up) down to the medium.

The orchid in post is really massive, looking forward to get something like that in future
