How to upload better quality photos
Default How to upload better quality photos

Since I have started posting, I’ve noticed that the quality of my uploaded photos using the attachment feature isn’t anywhere near the quality it should appear at. This is more than likely just a user error, but is there an efficient and effective way of posting pictures so as much detail as possible is apparent to other users? Maybe I just have a skewed view of things because I use this forum strictly on mobile devices…Any thought?

Not user error... the software reduces the photos. It's a matter of storage space. The people who post high-resolution photos do it through third-party services. If you select one of the posts, choose the Quote button (you don't actually need to send anything), you can see the link(s). Someone who uses this functionality will have to jump in and give further insights.

Roberta, you’re a gem!
I’ll have to experiment with this more often; I feel like having a good photo(s) is indispensable when trying to get to the bottom of things. Thanks a million!

Hi Frog,

I use imgur to post photos.
Once they uploaded, I right click on them and choose 'open in a new window'. Voila... and there is the link to your photo in the address bar.

When writing a message, choose the second icon above the field where you are writing. Then paste the link and hit OK. That icons looks like an envelope with a post stamp (in yellow).

I use postimages.org.
Once the photo is uploaded to postimages, a link is generated. You just need to copy the that link and paste it in you post here. Easy!

The downside of using external sites to post photos is that if the link is broken, the photos are gone. I find it such a shame to go through threads from several years ago and the photos are gone....

The website significantly downsizes images, because it hasn't been update in years and the size it uses no longer reflects the storage size of modern day servers.

I still remember the early years of the forum where it was frowned upon to imbed full sized images via flickr or similar, because folks on dial up modems had trouble getting the page to charge correctly!!

That happened to me with Photobucket. Hope it won't happen again with Postimages.
