Can I revive my orchid?

Hello 👋 I am a beginner orchid owner and I'm not sure what type of orchid this is (sorry!) Is there any way I can revive this plant or is it beyond help? I have already taken it out of the pot and hydrated it. Thank you 🙂

It's a Phalaenopsis, commonly nicknamed Phal, or moth orchid. Yes, probably salvageable.

Get some spaghnum moss wet and squeezing excess water out, put in bottom of a small pot or dish. Set the plant on top of the moss just like it is in your picture. Cover with something that lets light in (a baggie turned upside down, a clear drinking glass, a glass bowl. Every two or three days take cover off for a couple hours, make sure moss stays damp. If it's going to make it, it will slowly grow more roots and when the roots start gaining length you can pot it up.

howdy, and welcome to the ob! so while waterwhitchin is much more experienced than we are, i have to chime in and say if it were our orchid it would probly be in the trash and we would just buy another one. if you're reaaaally committed to saving an orchid and learning, then by all means try to save it! but if its just some plant somebody gave you, you might get more instant gratification if you buy a new one.

in our house, an orchid like that i wouldn't expect to bloom for at least a couple years probly. yes, you can learn a lot by trying to save it, but since you are new to orchids you need to know that it will be a long road to recovery before you see any flowers. sorry to be a wet blanket

my own story, i gave up growing orchids years ago because of a similar experience to yours, and in hindsight, had i just gotten some strong orchids and seen some success early on i probly would have started with them years ago. so, if it dies, its not your fault...you probly can grow orchids, and you should buy some more

I'll an important info... be really, really patient...it will take months (or a year) for you to see some activity and, as other have said, years before the next blooms.
The good side of it, is you will learn a lot about Phalaenopsis.

Welcome to the Orchid Board! If you are determined to save that orchid, follow WaterWitchin's advice and let us know how it goes. You don't mention if you currently own any other orchids, but if you do, enjoy the healthy ones in the meantime, and if you don't, I highly recommend acquiring a few.

I currently have 1 other orchid and that has got leaves but hasn't flowered for a while so I'm going to repot it and see what happens!

This cut piece of a phal that I cut might serve as an example. I repotted a phal that has a long stem or trunk. I can’t find what it’s called. It was actually the parent plant that had an offset growing out of it for a few years. It wasn’t growing and the leaves have fallen off so I finally snapped them apart to trash the parent. But the roots were still plump so I thought I would put it in a pot and stuff it full of old sphagnum moss. A month later I was surprised to see a bit of green in the pot. I’m glad because this is the one phal I have with an ID. The new growth is tiny so it could still keel over on me. But you never know.
