I was gifted this grocery store phal. last August, and got it to rebloom! I thought the white streaks were cool, but then read about how color breaks were a sign of possible viral infection. A flower opened up today and there were "splits" at the top of the petals (first image). What causes those splits?

You need virus testing to identify viral infection. The color markings are common in this kind of Phal. and would not make me suspect virus. The petals are peloric, meaning they have the characteristics of a lip. That would not make me suspect viral infection.
