Very long lasting non-grocery store Phals? Male
Default Very long lasting non-grocery store Phals?

Lately I feel motivated to get into Phals. and after seeing how long phal cornu cervi lasted. I want to give them a try, but are there other phals that is almost as long lasting as cornu cervi? I don't mind primary hybrid

Phal cornu-cervi (and its relatives) are long lasting because they are sequential bloomers. Individual flower don't necessarily last all that long, but a spike can keep producing for years. And of the Polichilos section it is one of the easiest - doesn't need as much warmth as some of the others. Another one that is pretty easy is Phal. tetraspis (Phal. speciosa is a synonym) - those are especially neat because every flower is different - so many variations on the white/red theme. Phal equestris does a lot of branching.

Of hybrids, mostly parentage from sections with larger flowers, those can bloom for months but not sequentially.

howdy! for the polychilos, check out gigantea and its hybrids. many of the hybrids are smaller, but hole the flowers for months.

also maybe look for phal schilleriana. while we struggle to make it thrive it does also hold its flowers for awhile like a grocery noid. and its fragrant!!

best of the luck with the search. there are lots of good primary hybrids out there!
